There are around ten casinos in the border town of Poipet between Cambodia and Thailand. This is Star Vegas, one of the most friendly establishments in the area. The idea seems to be that people will be drawn to spend their money in similar way to a moth flying towards a light bulb.

As you can see, Poipet is yet to really develop its infrastructure, thanks in no small part to the Khmer Rouge. There is no running water in the border town; all of the water comes from wells and is delivered once a week by trucks.

Poipet is a Cambodian border town. Like the rest of the country it has suffered greatly thanks to the Khmer Rouge. The roads are dusty and they still use a horse and cart to get around. Walking through the villages is a humbling experience.
